Principals of COTS Managements
The volatility of the commercial electronics and computing markets necessitates an obsolescence management program in which emerging program risks resulting from COTS products are proactively identified and mitigated in order to minimize impacts to the system design. RAC offers clients an advanced course in the principals of proactive COTS DMS Management using the COTS Manufacturer Database in SMART. In conjunction, training on best practices for collecting life cycle date from vendor surveys for organic COTS items is also provided. With a proactive approach to managing COTS, program offices and major systems can understand current issues and mitigate emerging risks and also plan for Technology Refresh or Technology Insertion based on what is likely to happen to all system COTS LRUs and items collectively over time.
